Family Physician
A board accredited Family Physician and Harvard-trained bioethicist, Dr Vincent Chia graduated from the National University of Ireland (University College Dublin) in 1999 with honors in Paediatrics, Medicine, General Practice, Legal Medicine, and Public Health Medicine in his professional exams. He subsequently trained in the Republic of Ireland during his foundational years in the areas of Dermatology, Endocrinology, Cardiology, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
During his stint in dermatology, he was tutored by Professor Johnny Bourke, author of two prominent dermatological textbooks, “Mosby’s Color Atlas And Textbook On Dermatology,” and “Dermatology: Fundamentals of Practice.” This is also where he honed his skills in delicate cryosurgery, genital dermatology, venereology, and related dermatological techniques and procedures.
Moving back to Singapore, he worked with both Singhealth and National Healthcare Group in hospitals like KK Women’s And Children’s Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singhealth Polyclinics, and National Healthcare Group Polyclinics. He did further training in Paediatrics, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, and Family Medicine to better his skills as a Family Physician.
Dr Vincent Chia has more than 25 years of clinical experience under his belt. Having also worked in several polyclinics in Singapore, his training in family medicine and community practice culminated in the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2008. A warm, skilled, and approachable family physician, his previous patients (both local and international) would also vouch for his proficiency and experience in the areas of Venereology, STI management, and Men’s Health (Andrology). He enjoys counselling his patients and takes time ensuring that they understand the details of the clinical decisions they make.
Beside Paediatrics, Men’s Health, Venereology and Dermatology, Dr Chia also has a special interest in Sports Medicine. He has particular interest in the diverse modes of physical training that affect the hormones of the body, which in turn drives weight loss, decelerate aging, and improves quality of life. He himself is an avid sportsman, and has first hand experiences of various competitive sports.
As his professional passion is in providing ethical healthcare for his patients, his training in bioethics enables him to further the development of primary care ethics within a medical landscape that is increasingly challenging both for medical providers and patients. With the integration of Artificial Intelligence and newer technologies into healthcare, it has become necessary for Dr Chia to be well-versed in navigating the ethical dilemmas involved in these novel paradigms. He aspires to contribute to a new bioethical framework for clinical medicine that allows for intercultural consensus and understanding within a globalized community.
